Bringing Designs to Life.

Following the last few posts on my studio work, I've began to bring some of the drawings of fish tail fins to life. I've started to explore the use of ruffles, and pleats within my work, so have begun to fold and work with paper to create a similar fin-like effect.

On from this I've began to work with layering these folded samples, and working with some of the pattern designs I had previously designed on pieces of folded layered samples.

In the next couple of days I intend to make some material samples of theses, - working with a choice of fabrics to investigate which one's hold the structure best. On from this, I intend to develop these samples into products.

Some things will have to be considered when putting these design sample structures onto actual fashionable products, for example; the fabric will have to hold its structure and not lose shape, it shall also have to be stored in a way that the structure is not crushed, on from this, the product will be a 'one-off' piece, as washing the product would be near to impossible.

Beverly Johnson

Keeping up with the social gossip that goes on, last night I went on my twitter, only to find Beverly Johnson was following me!

For those who don't know who she is.. she was the first black lady to model on the front of Vogue magazine. She's a huge inspiration to me, and I used her in my research for my dissertation this year. Women like her are the reason women like us, arent seen as inferior today. She is truly inspirational and I can only wish i look as good as her at the age of 59!

Designs into Fashion

Spring/Summer 2012 Collection

Pattern Work

Today I have been working on ways in which I can use the drawings to create patterns. The following patterns have been designed on Photoshop, using the purple Betta Fish fin, and the orange Plaket fish fin from the previous post.

Tail Fins

Here are a few of my beginning drawings when looking at the beauty of the tail fin. When drawing, i've used mostly watercolours as this really captures the blend and fluidity within the drawing. I've been concentrating on the colour blends from light to dark, and looking at ways in which movement can be captured within the sketch.
